Chapter 7: Encounter

For a second time the same feeling hits in as he leave the portal, but not as intensely as before. His eyesight was as blurred as before, but the fatigue was far away from reach the same level of the last time. Although his most severe injuries had already healed thanks to his lycan blood, the pain he felt after the previous night prevented Dariel from walking normally, even though the path he thought of tracing would not be long, as he was now facing the border with Solumus. As he expected, the magic applied on the portals of the walls that divided the four kingdoms only came into action during the time of the Meeting of the Masters, and since this was not the case, the giant stone gate was completely open. When he started his crossing it was possible to notice how wide was the wall that divided the kingdoms, for the tunnel that extended before him was enormous to the point that for a moment he thought that the light on the other side couldn’t be reached before the end of that day.

Whispers could be heard all along the way. Tales said that they were the spirits of the people living in Nexus, since the existence of their bodies was outside that reality, and remembering the moments he spent in the Capital of Immortals five years before, Dariel didn't dismiss the idea of that being true. After a long walk through that tunnel it became possible to glimpse the whole immensity of Solumus and how different the landscape was from anything he had seen in Volcanos or in his homeland, Atherian. To the left on the skyline, he could see the beginning of long, high green fields, where they came into contact with the sky or with the base of mountains and hills. Rumours mentioned that those lands belonged to giants.

But what had strangely caught his attention was immediately on his right. Feeling a strange shiver, he directed his gaze to part of the immense and dense Haunted Forest, which according to what he had already read about, several sinister cases had already occurred there involving witches, necromancers, demons and their nefarious rituals, which usually involved the torture and sacrifice of innocent people, especially children.

As he followed the road, he continued to watch the forest to his right, with the whispers becoming more intense as he followed the road that would take him straight to the village of Animus, the only place where he could get information on how to find Demiro Der Hiden and his dreaded wife, Syera Vandoom. As he felt his feet aching he realized that it was already getting dark. A whole day of walking without proper feeding had left him more tired than he had expected and his fatigue increased as he felt the tempered smell dancing through the air around him, which guide him to a modest inn in a village to the left of the road he was following.
